At auction: Malcolm Forbes’ model ship collection

The Royal Britannia ship model from Malcolm Forbes’ Nautical Collection

On January 29th and 30th, you can become an owner of maritime history. Red Baron Antiques is staging a sale of the late magazine publisher Malcolm Forbes’ coveted nautical collection. The Forbes offerings are, unsurprisingly, expected to garner seven figures, much like last month’s Sotheby’s sales of the tycoon’s antique collection.

The maritime collectibles include the largest private fleet of ship models ever made, 400 paintings, several statues, and an antique diving helmet. Amidst this impressive collection, aficionados can purchase an original Royal Yacht model of the sailing ship Britannia, first launched in 1893, a 14.5-foot long full-hull rigged builder’s model of the British twin-screw steamship Orontes, and a 12-foot builder’s model of the British twin-screw passenger liner Rangitiki. The collection will be up for auction at Red Baron Antiques, in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information, call 404.252.3770.
