Barrique: The Third Life Of Wood

by Lily Hoagland

aAn Italian non-profit organization, San Patrignano, has partnered with over 30 of the world’s leading designers and architects (think Angela Missoni, Daniel Libeskind, and Marc Sandler, to name a few) to give a new purpose to old wood.

The designers took old wine barrels and created high-end furniture and decor out of them. This not only was a beautiful exercise in creative innovation, but also one that demonstrates the value of sustainability. The result are chairs, swings, tables, and all sorts of wonderful objets d’art, precisely structured with incredible detail.

The exhibit of these fascinating pieces will be on display during NYCxDESIGN at the Poltrona Frau Showroom in Soho (May 18-20; 10am-6pm) and returning during The Summer Fancy Food Show at the Jacob K. Javits Center (June 30 – July 2).
