Birds Anniversary + Montblanc’s Hitchcock Pen

Today marks the 49th anniversary of the release of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” which was filmed on the coastal Sonoma County town of Bodega Bay, not far from where I grew up.

The occasion begs the opportunity to do a couple of things. For starters, paying homage to “Bird” siren Tippi Hedren, one of the director’s great cool blondes, but who found little fame outside of this iconic avian assault flick.

As for the director himself, Hitchcock was recently honored with a collection of limited-edition pens from Montblanc, the latest of which were released last month.

The “Vertigo” pen (above), for example, features a dizzying swirl inspired by the special effects scene that dramatizes leading man James Stewart’s fear of heights, while the “Psycho” pen comes with a knife-inspired clip and in the appropriate color blood red.

The pens are priced in the $3K range. For more information, call the Madison Avenue store at (212) 223-8888. — Christian Chensvold
