Martha Stewart and co-author Kevin Sharkey hosted a luncheon at Christie’s on March 8 to celebrate their new book, Martha’s Flowers, and preview the Peggy and David Rockefeller Collection.
Six custom floral tables were decorated with the china and vessels from the Rockefeller estate—available for auction in May—to give guests a preview of the collection. Guests enjoyed a menu curated by Stewart (which fittingly included Oysters Rockefeller) and imbibed on wine from the tastemaker’s eponymous brand.
“I have collaborated with my colleague and friend, Kevin Sharkey, during the several years it took to write this book. Kevin created most of the arrangements in this book using the flowers from my gardens and the containers from my various collections. I hope you learn from all I have learned, and I hope you enjoy growing and using the blooms from your gardens as much as I enjoy growing and using the wonderful flowers in my gardens.”—Martha Stewart.
In an exclusive panel, Martha Stewart, Kevin Sharkey, and Christie’s chairman Marc Porter discussed their respective relationships with Mr. Rockefeller and shared their inspiration behind the book and tips on growing and arranging flowers. The afternoon was attended by New York City tastemakers, art dealers and curators, top-tier media, and fashion and interior designers.
Martha’s Flowers: A Practical Guide to Growing, Gathering, and Enjoying includes all of Stewart’s personal tips—acquired during her many years of gardening. She includes detailed steps appropriate for all skill levels.
“I am very pleased to share with you my new, beautiful book, Martha’s Flowers,” Stewart says. “This book is the culmination of many years of planting, growing and enjoying the flowers in my various gardens.”
