Located in the heart of the Alpilles national park in Provence, Domaine de Manville’s 18-hole golf course is a French government-certified exemplary golf course. Designer Thierry Sprecher set out to build a course that was technically challenging while respecting the area’s eco-friendly philosophy. As a result, the course blends into the surrounding pastoral landscape—with geometric greens and fairways that resemble agricultural plots—and uses only half the water of other courses its size.

More about the hotel: The former farming estate in the heart of Provence is owned by a local couple who carefully restored the property over the course of 8 years. It’s surrounded by 12 wine estates, where the hotel’s sommelier will accompany guests to educate them about the terroir, as well as mills producing olive oil with the AOC designation, where visitors can learn to make their own bottles. The property’s 30 rooms create a U-shape around a courtyard with a garden, fountain, and terrace. There are nine villas – perfect for groups and families – that each come with their own golf cart to get around the property. Also of note are the 1,400 olive trees, nature trails, and 40 bee hives where the property produces its own honey. Guests can accompany the chef to shop for seasonal ingredients at the local markets and return to the hotel kitchen for hands-on cooking classes.
