Jump For Joy: Philippe Halsman’s Airborn Marilyn

Marilyn Monroe is making an it-girl encore from beyond the grave. First Michelle Williams gets an Oscar nod for her portrayal of the star in the biopic “My Week With Marilyn,” then Serena dreams about being Marilyn (you saw the 100th episode of “Gossip Girl” last night, right?), and now this great shot of the blonde bombshell (seen above with photographer Philippe Halsman) during her heyday.

The photo was taken by Halsman for a series called “Jumpology” in which prominent persons from politicians to movie stars were asked to leap towards the sky. The Laurence Miller Gallery produced an exhibit of the photos in 2010. We stumbled across the photos on the stylish French nostalgia blog Greensleeves To A Ground.

We’ll present our own tribute to Marilyn in the next issue of Q, our fashion quarterly.
