New York City’s First Lady Defends Mayor’s Fund Despite Drop in Donorship

On Wednesday, New York City’s First Lady Chirlane McCray announced a new initiative concerning homelessness among LGBTQ New Yorkers to a large audience in the Blue Room at City Hall. Soon however, the topic diverted to questions about her leadership with the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.

The Fund has seen a drop of contributions under McCray’s watch, but she said that her work on the nonprofit has been appropriate. Despite criticism that McCray was missing from many board meetings, the First Lady noted that she was always working on the cause, even remotely.

The fire continued to come when McCray was asked about the release of Mayor de Blasio’s email cache and when CBS2 pressed about the Mayor’s lack of transparency, responding with a simple, “I don’t know if what I feel is really relevant to this.”
