The “Big Apple Awards” provide our dependable and superb teachers with recognition and reward. Each year 10 schoolteachers are honored and receive grants to enrich their classrooms. The awards also include one Lincoln Center Arts Teacher Award dedicated to an arts educator.
Early yesterday evening, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, along with Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott, celebrated the 11 “Big Apple Award” recipients with a ceremony at Gracie Mansion. “Great teachers are a school’s most valuable asset,” said the mayor, “and we must recognize their skills and the impact they have on our students—even beyond the classroom.”
