It’s all here: a steeplechase, fall foliage, pumpkin pie, picturesque picnic areas, apple cider, hay bale seating. The Far Hills Race Meeting, popularly dubbed “The Hunt,” is a celebrated event steeped in rich tradition. Started by the Essex Fox Hounds, a club established in 1870, this fall fête was held to honor property owners who lended their land for hunting and sporting events. For over 90 years, families and friends have gathered for this October event that currently benefits the Somerset Medical Center.
And down the stretch they come! This Saturday, October 20th, in a large, well-groomed New Jersey countryside, 35,000 visitors will gather to watch the world-class steeplechase. Race day purses can be more than $500,000 with six races offering the highest purses on the National Steeplechase Association.
