17th Annual Rockefeller University Women & Science Lecture and LuncheonOn May 15th, the Upper East Side’s Rockefeller University hosted some of New York’s most important and influential people for the 17th Annual Women and Science Spring Lecture and Luncheon. The Rockefeller University Woman and Science initiative has directed their attention to the many important scientific contributions made by women, focused on the critical need for research on women’s health challenges, and created strong bonds between Rockefeller’s woman scientists and the women who support their work. Women and Science raised over $21 million through the Partners in Discovery fund-raising program. All of these proceeds go to women pursing careers in the sciences at the Rockefeller University. This year’s lecture and luncheon alone has raised over $1.7 million for the initiative, and was presented by Rockefeller University’s own professor, Dr. Elaine Fuchs, who captivated the audience as she discussed her vigorous pursuit of information on stem cells. She eloquently explained that while skin stem cells normally only replace the skin’s lost or dying cells, they are still related to many other types of stem cells that have the crucial ability to repair every type of bodily tissue. From malignant tumors to certain types of blindness, this research has the ability to have huge implications on the treatments of these illnesses. The guests, following the lecture, enjoyed a beautiful luncheon on the esplanade where they continued to discuss this fascinating set of information. Some of the well-known guests who attended this event included Gabrielle Bacon, Sade Baderinwa, Debra Black, Samantha Boardman, Wendy Breck, Tory Burch, Judy Carson, Karen de Saint Phalle, Eva Dubin, Blair Pillsbury Enders, Lise Evans, Olivia Flatto, Clarita Fodor, Barrett Frelinghuysen, Marjorie Gubelman, Ronnie Heyman, Justine Koons, Nancy Marks, Lisa McCarthy, KT McFarland, Gigi Mortimer, Peggy Noonan, Claudia Overstrom, Alexis Phelps, Courtney Rae, Emily Rafferty, Amy Falls Rogers, Daryl Roth, Denise Saul, Christine Schwarzman, Sydney Shuman, Laurie Tisch, Shirin von Wulffen, Lulu Wang, Claude Wasserstein, Caroline Weber, and many others.
